Mental Health Counseling

Picture
As a Licensed Mental Health counselor I specialize in working with children, adolescents, adults, parents and families on social, emotional, behavioral and learning difficulties. Family dynamics can be tricky. My goal is to assist clients in finding useful solutions to situations or problems that are interfering with the smooth flow of life or family living . Through acquiring and practicing new skills, learning new ways of thinking, and obtaining more effective coping skills an individual and/or family can begin to move forward.

For over 25 years, I have worked with individuals and parents on issues that concern mental health, parenting skills and academic success with students of all ages. Working in education as a teacher, coach, counselor and school administrator has allowed me the fluidity and flexibility to work from the adolescent's perspective. I use an eclectic approach with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral therapy on a variety of issues, including ADHD, organizational skills, anxiety, autism, depression, grief, learning difficulties and stress.

I believe my success, my client's success, is based on the relationship we develop. I have dedicated my life's work to supporting people to “get the tools they need for the life they want”.
"No positive change can occur in your life as long as you cling to the thought that the reason for your not living well lies outside yourself."

Parent Consultation

Parenting is hard work. The most physically and emotionally taxing job I have ever had was staying home to raise my children. Going back to work outside the home actually felt like a respite! When children are struggling, parents often need support and advice for setting appropriate behavioral and educational plans that focus on the whole child. Growing with your child is essential. As his or her perspective changes, growing and adapting with them will allow you to increase communication, reduce stress, and a strengthen your family.

Academic Tutoring

Instructional materials and methods are researched-based "best practices". Work is individualized to help students be successful at their own level and reach their potential. The emphasis of the tutoring process is to build the individual skills needed for success.
"Thank you so much for ALL of your help, friendship, accessibility and humor!  Your ability to quickly build the relationship so that "my teenager" would trust, and then listen to you, was nothing but pure skill! "     A mother from Ridgefield, WA.
